Neutering

diagram of male reproductive system in cat

Neutering your pet has many benefits. The procedure, which prevents male animals from reproducing, can help your dog or cat live a longer, healthier life. Neutering will not change your pet’s personality.

By neutering your pet, you’re reducing or eliminating his risk for prostate and testicular cancer, as well as sexually transmitted diseases. Neutering will also reduce or eliminate undesirable and embarrassing behavior, including roaming, fighting, humping, and spraying. In addition, neutering your pet will help control the dog and cat overpopulation problem, keeping more animals out of shelters.

Neutering, which involves removing the testicles, is a surgical procedure and does need to be performed with the pet under anesthesia. At Mavis Road Animal Clinic, we pride ourselves on our expertise in anesthesia and pain management.  Our Clinic has state-of-the-art anesthetic monitoring equipment and we follow strict protocols and continually monitor your pet’s vital signs to help ensure his safety. In addition, making sure your pet does not suffer unnecessary pain is very important to us.  Please see the descriptions under Anesthesia and Patient Monitoring for more information on what we do to keep your pet safe.

The price of our surgery includes the surgery itself, general anesthesia and monitoring by the veterinarian and our Registered Veterinary Technician, a complimentary nail trim while under anesthetic, hospitalization and continued nursing care by our qualified staff members, and pain medication administered in the clinic.

We also require pre surgical blood testing to minimize the chance of anesthetic complications during and after surgery.  We would be happy to discuss this in more detail and answer any questions you may have, and to review our prices.  Give us a call to set up an appointment to have your pet neutered. If you would like more information about this procedure, call or visit our clinic. If you are struggling with the decision of whether to neuter your pet, please call us so we can discuss your concerns.
